I’m building the mentor I never had.
I’m Kapil Gaud, a startup mentor to early-stage founders and the founder of iGNITED iDEA. I help founders reach the right customers, investors and media for what they’re building. I’m based in India and work with founders around the world.
You’ve built something good. The right people haven’t found it yet.
Maybe the deck has gone to every investor on a list. Maybe customers like the product, but too few of them know it exists. Nobody around you has done this before, so it’s hard to know who to reach first. I know what it’s like to have no one to ask, because that’s how I started.
Stability was the dream at home. I chose to build.
I grew up in an average middle-class family. Like most middle-class families, we valued stability over dreams: a government job, or clearing the engineering, medical or civil services exams.
- 2008
Work from anywhere
In 2008 the internet was still new to us, and it brought an idea I couldn’t stop thinking about: work you could do from anywhere. Maybe even while travelling the world. A traditional business needed capital my family didn’t have, so I explored idea after idea, learned to build basic websites and went looking for work.
- 2009–2013
What my first clients taught me
I pitched local businesses again and again, and they kept saying no. So I sat down with myself and went through every conversation from their side of the counter. A shop owner on a tight budget needed customers, and would pay for a website only if it brought some. With no money for ads, I learned SEO and started selling enquiries instead of pages. In 2009, just as college started, I won my first client, and the money went towards my first laptop. I won my first three clients while still in college, and the lesson stayed with me: find out what the other side actually wants.
- 2013
Building a team from zero
I founded iGaud, a digital growth agency, and built the team from scratch. It came to manage about $1M a month in client ad spend and grew communities to 10M+ members. That taught me to build on ground you own.
- 2018–2020
From hustle to systems
I put the agency’s work into systems, so it could run beyond my own hours. iGaud runs independently today, with its own team and clients. In 2020, when COVID put local businesses under pressure, I built a no-code store builder so an owner could start selling online from a phone. They had families and staff to look after, and no time to study first. They needed the cash register running first, and short videos let them learn at their own pace.
- Capital & visibility
The same lesson, with investors and the media
I helped founders and early-stage startups find the right investors and run their outreach, and they went on to raise $10M+ from investors, VCs and institutions around the world. The yes came from investors who already backed businesses like theirs. That work, and my work with NGOs, brought me to journalists, publishers and podcast hosts. Investors look at a founder’s visibility, and from my SEO years I knew what a mention on a trusted site is worth. Today AI search tools lean on those same trusted publications.

The help I wanted when I started
I started iGNITED iDEA, where 4,000+ active members share what they’re learning and help each other. And I work with a few founders at a time, in India and around the world, where my experience and connections fit what they’re building.
If you’ve built something good and the right people haven’t found it yet, tell me what you’re working on.
Tell me what you’re working onHow working with me starts
1. Tell me what you’re working on. One line is enough. I read every message myself and reply within 24 to 48 hours. If a quick answer helps, it’s yours at no charge.
2. We talk first. I ask about your product, your customers, your market and what you need. Then I tell you honestly whether I can help, or who can.
3. We agree the work in writing. A customer growth review; a researched list of investors and grant programmes that fit, or introductions; a researched list of the media that covers your space, or pitching for you. The scope and fee are agreed in writing, with an NDA, before anything starts.
Who I work with best
Early-stage founders, from idea to the first rounds of funding, in any sector, in India and around the world. I work with a few founders at a time, where my experience and connections fit what you’re building. If I can’t help, I know who can.
iGNITED iDEA: a one-stop platform for Indian entrepreneurs and startup founders.
Many people in India have an idea they keep putting off because no one around them can help. I started iGNITED iDEA in 2021 so they have a place to start, get unstuck and grow.
Today 4,000+ active members share what they’re learning and help each other. Industry leaders and veterans who want to give back add their experience and contacts.
